What Makes Henbury CoolPlus® Moisture Management So Effective

Workwear has to do more than just look smart. It needs to manage sweat, heat and movement, especially for those in roles where you’re moving, under lights, outdoors, or just working hard. With that in mind, we at www.colorcodedworkwear.com want to explain one of our favourite fabric technologies: Henbury CoolPlus®. Whether in the men’s or ladies’ CoolPlus polos, long-sleeves, or other garments, here’s how it works, why it matters, and how to get the most from it.

💡 What Is “CoolPlus®”?

CoolPlus® is a performance fabric technology used in Henbury’s range (e.g. H475 Men’s CoolPlus Polo, H476 Ladies’ CoolPlus Polo, H478 Long-Sleeve Unisex CoolPlus Polo, etc.).

Key facts:

  • Made from 100% polyester micro-pique fabric.

  • Weight is about 180 gsm (grams per square metre), which is substantial enough for durability but light enough for breathability.

  • “Permanent wicking yarn technology” means that moisture (sweat) is moved from the skin to the outer surface of the fabric, where it can evaporate. The yarns themselves are engineered so that this moisture-moving behaviour is built in, not just in a coating.

🔬 How CoolPlus® Works in Practice

Here are the features you’ll find in both male & female CoolPlus® garments, and how they help you stay dry and comfortable:

Feature What it Does How the User Feels / Benefits
Wicking / Moisture Transport The polyester micro-pique pulls sweat away from the skin through capillary action in the fibres. The moisture travels to the fabric surface and then evaporates.  You feel less clammy, fewer patches of sweat, more comfort—especially in warm or active environments.
Breathability & Venting Design Cut features like side vents, dropped tails, shaped seams (in female cut), etc. help air circulate. The fabric’s micro-piqué structure also has air gaps which help with ventilation. Less feeling of heat being trapped, better cooling.
Easy Care and Durability The fabric is easy wash, capably handled at higher wash temperatures (many allow 60°C) without losing wicking properties. Also, twin-needle stitching, taped necks, ribbed collars etc increase durability.  Saves cost over time; uniforms last longer; less fading, less shrinkage; the garment continues to perform.
Colour Retention & Comfort Since it’s polyester, colour tends to hold well; polyester dries faster than cotton etc. Shaped cuts in female styles help fit better, which improves comfort.  More professional appearance over time; fewer issues with sagging or dulling.

👕 Examples: Men’s vs. Women’s CoolPlus® Styles

Here are a few typical Henbury CoolPlus® products and what features they share / how they adapt for different users:

  • Men’s CoolPlus® Polo (H475) – Regular fit, 2-button placket, micro-piqué 180 gsm fabric, side vents, dropped tail. Washable to 60°C.

  • Ladies’ CoolPlus® Polo (H476) – Same fabric tech, same weight, but tailored cuts (shaped side seams), cuffed sleeves, side vents. Meant to offer a more flattering fit while preserving the moisture management benefits.

  • Long-Sleeve Unisex CoolPlus Polo (H478) – For cooler conditions or workplaces requiring more coverage. The same permanent wicking yarn, ribbed cuffs, side vents etc. Helps with layering but still breathes.

⚙ Washing, Care & Best Use Tips

To make sure you get the best out of CoolPlus® clothing, and keep its moisture management performance high over time:

  1. Washing Temperatures - The fabric survives up to 60°C washes for many items, though 40°C is sufficient. Higher washes help with hygiene if needed.

  2. Avoid Fabric Softeners - Fabric softeners can clog the tiny fibres or reduce moisture movement properties; best to skip or use sparingly. (Though not always explicitly stated on every product, it’s standard for wicking synthetics.)

  3. Low Iron, Careful Drying - Some female polos mention tumble drying on low, cool ironing. High heat can damage synthetic fibres or shrink/warp them.

  4. Wash Similar Colours - To preserve colour and reduce fading, especially for bright colours where dye may be more stressed in heat.

  5. Allow Drying / Air Flow - After washing, allow air drying or tumble low so moisture fully evaporates; avoid leaving damp in bags, etc., so fabric doesn’t stay damp and reduce performance.

🎯 Why This Matters for Workwear

Here’s what the CoolPlus® moisture management tech means in real workday terms:

  • Improved Comfort for staff -  less sweat-soaked under arms, less feeling of stickiness, especially under uniform outer layers, or in high-activity roles.

  • Hygiene & Odour Control - faster drying means sweat is less likely to linger and cause odour or bacteria growth.

  • Professional Appearance Maintained - moisture marks show less, garments dry faster after wash, colours hold up better, logo and embroidery remain sharp because fabric stays stable.

  • Reduced Replacement Frequency - because fabric stays performance-sound longer, you don’t need to replace as often, saving cost in the long term.
